10 hot new smartphones of 2012


The ongoing Consumer Electronics Show 2012 in Las Vegas, US, one of the technology's biggest extravaganza, saw a plethora of smartphone launches. While some of the new smartphones boast of impressive looks and features, others have unique design, hardware specs and user interface.

However, one thing common across most smartphones unveiled at the event is Google's mobile platform Android. The OS turned out to be a clear show-stealer with almost all smartphones running on Android's latest OS update Ice Cream Sandwich.

Here are the 10 hottest smartphones that created a big buzz at the show and are expected to hit the market in the coming month



 Lenovo K800

 The world's No. 1 chipmaker Intel made its debut in the smartphone chip market with the unveiling of Lenovo K800 smartphone at CES, the first phone to run on Intel's Medfield processor.

Sporting a 4.5-inch TFT display with 720p, the Intel-powered smartphone K800 includes a 1.6GHz Medfield processor and runs on Android 4.0 OS along with Lenovo's LeOS. The phone will use Intel's 32-nanometer mobile chip dubbed Medfield, which is part of Intel's Atom line.

The phone features an 8 megapixel camera with dual-LED flash and a front-facing camera for video calling. For connectivity, the phone packs the usual 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, GPS connectivity and Wi-Di (Wireless Display).

The phone will also offer support for near-field communication (NFC) for mobile payments and have a HDMI port. The phone will be able to stream video to TV sets equipped with Intel's Wireless Display technology. According to reports, K800 is compatible with WCDMA HSPA+ and will be available on AT&T's 3G network. The phone is likely to be available in China in second quarter of 2012.

 Sony  Xperia NXT series - Xperia S.

Sony announced its smartphone from the Xperia NXT series - Xperia S.

Sporting a 4.3-inch Reality Display with Mobile Bravia Engine with HD resolution screen (1280 x 720), the phone packs a 12 megapixel camera which is capable of taking pictures in just 1.5 seconds from standby mode.

Powered by 1.5GHz dual-core processor, Xperia S will launch with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and will later be upgraded to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) during the second quarter 2012. For connectivity, the phone supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, HDMI, NFC and DLNA.

The phone will also let users watch content from the Sony Entertainment Network by connecting through HMDI to TV, or share photos wirelessly with just one touch.

Xperia S is also NFC (near field communication) enabled to allow consumers to share content with each other. Xperia S will be available to consumers globally from the first quarter of 2012.

 HTC Titan II

HTC Corp created buzz with its Windows Phone Titan II at the CES show.

Sporting a large 4.7-inch super LCD capacitive touchscreen display, HTC Titan II features a phenomenal 16 megapixel camera with a wide-angle lens, autofocus, dual LED flash, red eye reduction, image stabilization, a backside-illuminated sensor and a physical camera button. The smartphone also enables 720p HD video recording.

The phone's other camera features include panoramic shot for sweeping landscapes and burst shot for action photography. HTC has also added a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera for video chat and video calling.

Powered by Qualcomm's 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S2 processor, HTC Titan II will feature the latest version of Windows Phone OS and will pack 1,730mAh lithium ion battery.

The phone will also offer quick access to the latest movies and TV shows via HTC Watch and on-the-go gaming with Xbox Live.

HTC Titan II, which comes with a large on-screen keyboard, will offer instant access to Windows Phone Office Hub, Microsoft Exchange 2010 and Outlook Mobile. The phone will also let customers download exclusive HTC applications for free within Windows Marketplace through HTC Hub. The phone also offers support for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS.

 Huawei Ascend P1 S

 Huawei Ascend P1 S Huawei Technologies, China's largest maker of telecommunications gear, unveiled a new smartphone it is touting as the slimmest on the market as it moves to boost its share of the global consumer market.

Called Huawei Ascend P1 S, the smartphone features a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display with a 960x450 resolution on its Corning's Gorilla Glass screen and is 6.68mm thin. The phone will run on latest Android OS 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).

POwered by 1.5GHz dual-core TI OMAP 4460 processor, Ascend P1 S will come with 8 megapixel camera with LED flash and a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera. Video can be captured at 1080P and 720.

 Nokia Lumia 900

Microsoft chief executive Steven Ballmer joined Nokia boss Stephen Elop at the CES to unveil the company's much-awaited Lumia 900 smartphone.

Sporting a 4.3-inch AMOLED ClearBlack display with a resolution of 480 x 800, Nokia Lumia 900 will come with 8 megapixel AF camera with Carl Zeiss optics, 720p video recording at 30fps and 1 megapixel front-facing camera.

Powered by 1.4 GHz Scorpion processor, the phone will include 16GB internal memory and 512MB RAM. For connectivity, Lumia 900 will offer support for 3G, EDGE/GPRS, Wi-Fi, LTE, Bluetooth v4.0 and NFC.

Lumia 900 runs on Windows Phone 7.5 Mango mobile software and will tap into the growing trove of hip, fun, or functional mini-applications for handsets based on Microsoft's latest mobile software.

 Fujitsu quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 smartpone

Fujitsu showed a prototype of a quad-core Android smartphone powered by Ice Cream Sandwich at CES.

The phone will run on the quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, which will boost users' gaming experience. The company demonstrated the phone at the show by running Riptide GP on the device.

Though no specifications are available, it is expected that Fujitsu will unveil the smartphone in Feburary.

Besides this, Fujitsu also unveiled ultra-thin Arrows F-078 and ES IS12F smartphones. Arrow ES IS12F, at 6.7 MM thickness, is claimed to be the world's thinnest smartphone.

The smartphone runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread and has a 1.4 Ghz single core Qualcomm processor.

 Motorola Droid 4

Motorola is ready with two smartphones running Android 2.3 Gingerbread -- Droid 4 and Droid Razr Maxx.

Droid 4 features a 4-inch touchscreen display which supports qHD (960x540) pixel resolution. The company claims that Droid 4 comes with water-repellent nano-coating for splash resistance.

Droid 4 comes with 16GB on-board memory which can be expanded up to 32 GB. Running on Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread, the phone will soon get Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade.

Droid 4 includes a 8 megapixel camera with capability of 1080p HD and a front-facing 1.3 megapixel camera capable of recording 720p HD. Other features include FM Radio, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 and A-GPS.

 Motorola's Droid Razr Maxx

Another phone from Motorola's stable, Droid Razr Maxx, features a 4.3-inch Super Amoled advanced touchscreen display with qHD (960x540) pixel resolution. According to the company, the phone offers a battery life of 21 hours.



Xperia Ion

Besides Xperia S, Sony also unveiled Xperia Ion smartphone at CES. Featuring a 4.6-inch display with 720p display, Ion will come with a 12.1 megapixel camera which can capture 1080p Full HD video.

Powered by 1.5GHz dual-core processor, the phone has 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage with support for microSD cards and HDMI-out.

For connectivity, there is Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and support for 4G connectivity. The phone will run on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and is likely to get Ice Cream Sandwich update soon.
Powered by dual-core 1.2 GHz mobile processor, the phone packs 1GB RAM and 16GB ROM. Droid Razr Maxx will come with an 8 megapixel camera and 1.3 megapixel camera front camera.

   Lenovo s2 unveiled

Apart from the Intel-powered Lenovo K800, Lenovo also unveiled Android Gingerbread-based smartphone S2.

Powered by dual core 1.4 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255 processor, Lenovo S2 sports a 3.8-inch touchscreen display with 480 x 800 pixel (WVGA) resolution.

The phone will come with 8 megapixel shooter and a 0.3 megapixel front-facing camera for video calls. Lenovo S2 smartphone also packs micro USB port, 3.5 mm audio port and micro HDMI.

For memory, Lenovo S2 will come in an 8GB version with 512 MB RAM and a 16GB version with 1GB RAM.
